A record year abroad, and a database most people never openThe Department of Migrant Workers reported in February that deployments broke 2.7 million for the first time, with over 2.15 million land-based workers and 589,179 sea-based. Kuwait accounted for the sharpest change. Deployments there rose 39.45% to 106,394 after the visa ban on Filipino skilled workers was lifted, up from 76,272 the year before. But a bigger market does not mean a safer one, and the agency you sign with is the part of this you actually control. So this morning we pulled every record out of the DMW's public licensed-agency database, all 3,792 of them, and counted what status each one currently holds. | › | Where the work was. United Arab Emirates 397,892. Saudi Arabia 386,699. Singapore 221,492. Hong Kong 202,415. Qatar 160,890. Taiwan 134,363. Kuwait 106,394. | | › | What the agency database actually says, as of this morning: 1,156 agencies hold a valid license. 1,164 are delisted. 919 are cancelled. 158 are expired. 167 carry the status Forever Banned. The rest are inactive, suspended, revoked or denied renewal. | | › | So fewer than one in three names in that database can legally recruit you today. An agency being listed by DMW is not the same as an agency being licensed by DMW, and that gap is where most placement scams live. |
Why it matters The check costs thirty seconds. Open the DMW licensed agency inquiry page, type the agency name exactly as it appears on their signage or contract, and read the license status field. Migration The record year is real, and so is the fine print. DMW's own figures show the 15.43% jump from 2.37 million in 2024. Under Philippine rules a licensed agency cannot charge a land-based worker a placement fee for most skilled categories, and can never ask you to pay before you have a signed contract and a verified job order. It is not our phrase, it is the government's own category, and it exists because some agencies did enough damage that no renewal will ever be considered. Another 919 are cancelled and 1,164 delisted. None of them stopped having a name, an office, or a recruiter who will still talk to you. That is exactly why you check the status and not the signage. |
