AI Is Moving Fast. Here's How to Keep Up.

AI is moving faster than any other technology. New models. New tools. New claims. New noise.

Most people feel like they're behind. But the people that don't, aren't smarter. They're just better informed.

The Future Today is a daily briefing for people who want clarity. In one concise email each day, you'll get the most important AI and tech developments, learn why they matter, and what they signal about what's coming next.

Written for operators, builders, leaders, and anyone who wants to sound sharp when AI comes up in the meeting.

One email. Five Minutes. Stay ahead of 99% of the world.

Magandang araw, kabayan. Today is a proud one, and a useful one. Filipino students just won the country's first gold at the Asia-Pacific AI Olympiad, the free AI courses built for OFWs are closing in a few days, and verified jobs are open for applications right now.

In today's issue
A historic first: Team Philippines won gold at the first Asia-Pacific Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence, placing sixth of 18 countries on debut.
Free AI training for OFWs: The DMW and TESDA K2K AI and data courses are open, but pre-registration closes July 15. Only a few days left.
New at sea: A new DMW standard contract for Filipino seafarers took effect July 3, with stronger disability pay and daily rest protections.
Jobs to check: A Metro Manila hybrid role, a DMW-licensed nursing job in Singapore, and a remote PH role, all re-verified before this issue went out.
Win of the Day
4 medals One gold, one silver, two bronze: the Philippines' haul at its first Asia-Pacific AI Olympiad, sixth of 18 countries.

Filipino students just won gold in AI, on the country's first try

An eight-member Filipino high school team won gold, silver, and two bronze medals at the first Asia-Pacific Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence. On June 27, students from across the country sat a single six-hour exam against more than 100 of the sharpest young minds in the Asia-Pacific. Team Philippines finished sixth of 18 countries on its debut, and Noe Nathan Arreza of Philippine Science High School earned an individual gold. The results were announced in the first week of July.

Why it matters  AI is already reshaping the jobs our readers are chasing. This is proof that Filipino talent can compete for the highest-value work in the world, and that it starts young.

Opportunities This Week
OFW Training

Free AI courses for OFWs close July 15. The DMW and TESDA K2K program offers free, certified AI and data courses built for returning and current OFWs, with job facilitation included. Pre-registration closes on July 15, so this is the week to sign up. Requirements are light: 18 and up, high school graduate, and basic computer skills. See the K2K courses and enroll ->

OFW News

New protections for Filipino seafarers took effect. A new DMW standard employment contract for seafarers took effect July 3 under the Magna Carta of Filipino Seafarers. It raises grade 1 disability compensation to about US$66,000, guarantees at least 10 rest hours in every 24, and defines abandonment so that unpaid wages of two months or more trigger a seafarer's rights. If you or a family member works at sea, these are now the floor, not the ceiling. Read what changed for seafarers ->

Skills

Start free digital literacy tonight. If a full AI course feels like a big step, TESDA's online 21st Century Skills track has free, self-paced digital literacy courses you can start on a phone tonight. They are the base layer every AI course builds on. Open the digital literacy courses ->

OFW Safety

Two recruiters arrested over fake Poland jobs. A June 30 DMW entrapment operation in Manila caught two recruiters who collected more than ₱300,000 in fees for factory and welder jobs that did not exist, and the unlicensed office was closed. Before any payment, verify the agency license and the approved job order directly with DMW.

Everyday Wins

Gold medals start as unglamorous practice. Those students drilled problems nobody clapped for, for months, before one exam made history. Whatever you are building, today's quiet rep is the real win. One free module tonight counts.

Quick Hits
Pool pride: Carlo Biado beat fellow Filipino Paolo Gallito 10 to 9 to win the Indonesia Open 10-Ball on July 4, an all-Filipino final that kept the title at home.
OFW move: if a relative is talking to a recruiter, ask for the agency name and check the license on dmw.gov.ph before anything is paid or signed.
Application move: tailor the first sentence of your application to the exact role. Recruiters skim the opening line first.

Salamat for reading, kabayan. Today's small move: if you or an OFW you love qualifies, start the K2K sign-up before the July 15 cutoff, then send one application.
