Win of the Day  Sablayan just became a UNESCO biosphere reserveThe town of Sablayan in Occidental Mindoro is now one of the world's newest UNESCO biosphere reserves. Announced on World Environment Day, the designation protects Apo Reef Natural Park, the largest contiguous coral reef in the Philippines, and the home of the critically endangered tamaraw. It spans 327,880 hectares and was one of only 14 added worldwide this year. The Headlines Economy OFW cash remittances climbed to $2.72 billion in April, up 2% from a year earlier, bringing the year-to-date total to $11.4 billion. The United States, Singapore, and Saudi Arabia remain the top sources sending money home. Migration Malacanang released an extra ₱3 billion to bring more kabayan home from the Middle East. As of June 17, the DMW had flown back 10,446 Filipinos, including 8,281 OFWs and 1,803 dependents, on humanitarian flights. Affected workers can reach the DMW for repatriation and reintegration help.
