TESDA + AWS: Turn Free Training Into a Work Sample
Use the new cloud and AI training announcement to choose one learning goal and build a small, honest example of your skills.
TESDA announced an AWS collaboration on October 2. Check what is available, pick a manageable starting point and finish with a work sample instead of another unfinished course bookmark.
The playbook for how staff engineers actually operate
You're already doing staff-level work. Someone with half your skill just got the title instead.
The difference isn't the code. It's knowing how the role actually works.
Sign up for The Code newsletter and get:
The complete staff engineer playbook, 6 modules and 25 lessons on scope, sponsors, and the promotion packet that proves you're ready
The Code newsletter (5 min daily) so you keep leveling up. The playbook is just the beginning.
The Short Version
- TESDA announced cloud and AI courses for its Online Program, with no course fees.
- Verify course access in the official platform. An announcement is not proof that your enrollment is complete.
- Build one small practice artifact and describe it accurately; training and certification are separate.
What the announcement establishes
Announced tracks
Fundamentals of AI, AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner and AWS Certified AI Practitioner courses are planned for TOP.
Eligibility
TESDA says training is open to Filipinos with TOP access, with no prerequisites or course fees.
Voucher limit
Certification vouchers may be available through further TESDA Women’s Center pathways, subject to availability and applicable policies. They are not guaranteed.
Access check
Specific enrollment, course start and voucher availability have not been verified for an individual learner.
Choose a question you actually want to answer
Start with a work question, not a badge collection. A support worker might want to explain why an AI-generated reply needs checking. An administrative worker might want to understand access permissions. A career changer might want to describe what a cloud service does without reciting a product list.
Build one artifact in four short sessions
Check the course and define the output
Open the official TESDA Online Program and inspect the current course details before enrolling. Record the exact course name and any stated requirements. Choose an output you can finish: a one-page explanation, a process checklist or a small fictional case study.
Learn one concept, then close the notes
Study a manageable lesson. Explain the concept in ordinary language without looking at the material. Then reopen the lesson and correct the gaps. Keep a short “still unclear” list. This reveals what you understand and what you are only recognizing on screen.
Apply it to a made-up work situation
Use invented names and harmless sample data. State the task, your approach, a possible failure and the check you would use. Do not upload a real employer’s files or customer messages into a tool just to make a portfolio look authentic.
Package the evidence honestly
Save the artifact with a title, date, source links and a brief description of your role. Explain what you checked yourself and what remains untested. If you used an AI tool, say how you used it. A readable explanation of a small task can be more credible than a large claim you cannot defend.
A fictional AI review exercise
Imagine a fictional shop has this rule: unopened items can be returned within seven days with a receipt; delivery fees are not refundable. A practice AI reply says, “We will refund your entire payment today.” Your task is to identify what the reply assumes and rewrite it without promising an approval.
A better practice response would ask for the purchase date, receipt and item condition, explain the stated delivery-fee limit, and route the request for review. The work sample should show the original rule, the unsupported promise, your correction and why it is more accurate. This is an original PWE exercise, not an official course assessment or real customer exchange.
You can complete the reasoning on paper. There is no need to open a paid cloud service or add payment details for this exercise. If you later try a technical lab, read its access and billing instructions first and stay within a budget you understand.
What belongs on your CV
- Use the exact completed course name and completion date when you have the corresponding evidence.
- Describe an unfinished course as in progress; do not list it as a completed credential.
- Label your project as a personal practice sample, and say what it demonstrates.
- Claim AWS certification only after earning it through the applicable certification process.
Keep the next step small enough to finish
AWS describes Cloud Practitioner certification as foundational and lists a separate exam. That distinction matters: a course with a certification-track name is not, by itself, an earned certification. Verify any exam or voucher conditions directly before making plans around them.
For this week, choose one question and one output. Put two short study sessions and a review session in your calendar. At the end, ask someone to read your explanation and point to the sentence they do not understand. Improve that sentence before starting another course. Your finished sample should make your learning visible, without promising a job or a salary increase.
Source Desk
TESDA’s October 2 announcement, the TOP homepage and the AWS certification overview were checked October 7, 2026. Course enrollment and individual voucher eligibility were not tested. The four-session plan and fictional customer-service exercise are original PWE editorial material, not TESDA or AWS assessments.
